Between visits, keep shrubs, planters and deck furniture a couple of feet back from the unit, hose off salt and leaves gently in spring, and make sure the drain under it is clear so defrost water can get away.
Wiring and permits
Each heat pump needs its own circuit and an outdoor disconnect, and older homes may need a panel or service upgrade. The City of Des Moines issues both the mechanical and electrical permits through MyPermits Online (City of Des Moines, permit applications and information) and inspects electrical work itself instead of L&I (L&I, cities that do their own electrical permits).
