Home Comfort Alliance provides HVAC repair for heating and cooling systems in homes and businesses across Seattle-Tacoma: gas and electric furnaces, heat pumps, central air conditioners and ductless mini-splits. Technicians come out from our Redmond, Everett, Bremerton and Sumner branches. Every repair starts with a diagnosis by a NATE-certified technician and a written, upfront price before any work begins.
A repair visit has a $119 dispatch fee. Our phones are answered 24/7, and our heating and cooling technicians work after hours, with a $330 after-hours fee that we tell you before anyone is sent. Call (425) 645-0404 or use the form at the end of this page.
Smell gas or hear a carbon monoxide alarm? Stop troubleshooting and get everyone outside. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility: Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773 or Cascade Natural Gas at 888-522-1130. Then see our 24/7 emergency heating and cooling page.
Book a repair visit if your system shows any of these:
Not sure whether it can wait for morning? Our emergency service page has a simple table for that.
Each system fails in its own ways. Find yours below for the most common faults and a full repair guide.
| Your system | What usually fails | Repair guide | If it can't wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gas furnace | Ignitor, flame sensor, inducer motor, pressure switch, control board, blower motor | Furnace repair | Emergency furnace repair |
| Electric furnace | Heating elements, sequencers, relays, breakers, blower motor | Furnace repair | Emergency furnace repair |
| Ducted heat pump | Defrost controls, reversing valve, capacitor, outdoor fan motor, refrigerant leaks, auxiliary heat | Heat pump repair | Emergency heat pump repair |
| Ductless mini-split | Dirty filters and coils, drain line clogs, sensors, error codes, refrigerant leaks | See ductless repair below | Emergency heat pump repair |
| Central air conditioner | Capacitor, contactor, condenser fan motor, frozen coil, refrigerant leaks, clogged drain | AC repair | Emergency AC repair |
| Dual fuel (heat pump with gas furnace backup) | Either side, plus the controls that switch between them | Heat pump repair and furnace repair | Call (425) 645-0404 |
These five checks fix a surprising number of service calls. If none of them work, leave the rest to a technician.
Don't open the furnace cabinet, the electrical panel or any gas line. A breaker that trips again after one reset needs a technician.
Ductless systems are heat pumps, so most faults are the same: a unit that won't heat or cool, a blinking light or error code, water dripping from the indoor head, or ice on the outdoor unit. Start by cleaning the washable filters behind the front panel of each indoor head, and note any error code on the unit or remote before you call. Our technicians repair all major ductless brands, and Home Comfort Alliance is a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer. More on ductless heating and cooling.

Repair is usually the right call for a system under about 15 years old with a first or second fault. Lean toward replacing when two or more of these are true:
Our technician will tell you plainly which way they'd go. Replacement estimates are free, and you can get a price range in about 30 seconds with our instant HVAC quote. See HVAC replacement and our guide to furnace repair or replacement.
If you replace with a heat pump, utility incentives can help. Tacoma Power, for example, pays $1,000 for a qualifying air-source or ductless heat pump and $2,000 for a variable-speed heat pump that replaces an electric forced-air furnace (as of October 2026, participating contractor required; Home Comfort Alliance is an approved Tacoma Power contractor). Puget Sound Energy and Seattle City Light have their own programs; see the heat pump cost guide for amounts. The federal 25C tax credit ended on December 31, 2025.
Most repairs, such as replacing a capacitor, motor, ignitor or control board, don't need a permit. Replacing equipment, or changing gas lines or wiring, usually does. When a job needs one, we pull it from the city or, for electrical work in many cities, from Washington L&I or the local electrical authority. In Seattle that's the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections.
Whoever you call, check these six things first:

| After-hours heating and cooling | Furnaces fail at night | 24/7 emergency HVAC service in every city we serve |
In late September 2026, a West Seattle homeowner shut off their gas furnace after it started making a high-pitched noise. Our technician found worn bearings in the draft inducer motor, which also explained the slow starts, and an ignitor that was starting to fail. With the homeowner's approval, he replaced the inducer motor, its capacitor and the ignitor, then ran the furnace through full heating cycles before leaving.

To keep the next repair away, book a tune-up once a year.

Repair usually makes sense for a system under about 15 years old. Consider replacing when the age times the repair price is over $5,000, the compressor or heat exchanger has failed, the system uses R-22 refrigerant, or you have paid for several repairs recently. Replacement estimates are free.
Usually, if it is under about 12 to 15 years old and the problem is a part such as a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or defrost control. A failed compressor on an older heat pump is often the point where replacement makes more sense. See our heat pump repair guide for the common faults.
Installations carry a 1-year labor warranty, and we support the manufacturer's warranty on covered parts. Home Comfort Club members get extended labor coverage on repairs, up to 5 years from installation.
