What Lynnwood homes need
- Two utilities, two sets of rules. Electricity in Lynnwood comes from Snohomish County PUD, while natural gas comes from Puget Sound Energy, which serves gas customers in Snohomish County. Which rebates you can use depends on which one heats your home.
- Houses from the growth years. Much of Lynnwood’s housing went up in the decades when the city was growing fast around Highway 99 and Alderwood Mall. Homes of that age are well past the working life of their original furnaces and water heaters, and panels from that era were not sized for a heat pump, EV charger and induction range at once.
- Cooling is no longer optional for many families. The late-June 2021 heat dome set all-time temperature records across the region. We usually recommend a heat pump to add cooling, because the same system heats efficiently the rest of the year.
- Growth and redevelopment. The City Center area between the transit center and Alderwood Mall is filling in with newer townhomes and condos alongside older single-family streets. Each needs a different approach to heating, cooling and water heating.

Permits in Lynnwood
