Home Comfort Alliance installs, replaces and repairs heat pumps in Olympia, including ducted systems, ductless mini splits and dual-fuel setups that pair a heat pump with a gas furnace. Olympia jobs are handled by our Sumner branch, and each one begins with a free estimate, a room-by-room load calculation and a written proposal.
Olympia’s weather suits heat pumps. Winters are long but mild, and summers are usually comfortable. Heat pumps are at their most efficient in exactly that range. They also cool: on June 28, 2021, Olympia set its all-time high of 110°F, and a heat pump is the one system that covers both the long heating season and the rare dangerous heat.
What most Olympia homes end up with: a ducted heat pump where there is good ductwork, ductless heads where there are baseboards, and dual fuel where the homeowner wants to keep PSE gas as backup.
There is no Olympia-only cost survey, so these are regional estimates from Seattle-area data.
| Type | Installed cost range |
|---|---|
| Air-source heat pump (most homes) | $3,160 to $13,850 |
| Seattle-area average | About $10,218 |
| Ductless mini split, single zone | $2,222 to $5,555 |
| Ductwork replacement, if needed | $620 to $2,100 |

| Program | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PSE electric resistance to heat pump | $1,500, plus up to $2,400 Efficiency Boost | Replacing baseboards, wall heaters or an electric furnace; PSE electric customers |
| PSE hybrid heat pump | $1,500, plus up to $2,400 Efficiency Boost | Adding a heat pump to a gas furnace; PSE gas customers |
| Energize Thurston | Discounts through participating installers; income-qualified grants from October 2026 | Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater homes |

Home Comfort Alliance is a PSE Trade Ally approved contractor for HVAC systems, which PSE requires for the rebates above, and we file them with you. Energize Thurston discounts and grants go only through that program’s participating installers, and Home Comfort Alliance is not on the list as of September 2026. If you qualify for a large county grant, it may be worth comparing; if not, PSE rebates are usually the main incentive.

The size of the savings depends on what the heat pump replaces. Homes heated by baseboards, cadet wall heaters or an electric furnace see the biggest drop in winter bills, because electric resistance heat produces one unit of heat for each unit of electricity, while a heat pump moves several units of heat for the same electricity on a typical Olympia winter day. Gas-heated homes save less on heating costs, but gain air conditioning and cut their gas use substantially with a dual-fuel setup. Homes with a heat pump from the early 2000s also gain a lot from a modern variable-speed model, which runs longer at low speed instead of cycling on and off. During the estimate we show a side-by-side running cost comparison based on your current system and PSE rates.

Olympia’s winters are more damp than frigid, though hard cold snaps do happen. Cold-climate heat pumps keep delivering heat well below freezing, and in damp weather they defrost the outdoor coil every so often, which is normal. We size the heat pump to your home’s heat loss so backup heat, whether electric strips or a gas furnace, runs only when it truly has to. We also set up the thermostat’s balance point and lockouts at start-up, because a badly configured thermostat is the most common reason a heat pump costs more to run than it should.
A heat pump needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit and a disconnect at the outdoor unit, and switching from gas or adding cooling can raise the load on an older panel. Our electricians check panel capacity during the estimate. In Olympia, the city issues and inspects its own electrical permits, and it requires mechanical permits for heating equipment (L&I, cities that do their own electrical permits; City of Olympia, What Do I Need?). Lacey handles its own electrical permits too; Tumwater uses Washington L&I. We pull every permit needed.
The same technology works for hot water. A heat pump water heater pulls heat from the surrounding air to heat the tank and uses far less electricity than a standard electric tank. PSE offers a $1,000 rebate, or $1,100 with Efficiency Boost, on qualifying models installed on or after January 1, 2026 (PSE heat pump water heater rebate), and Home Comfort Alliance is a PSE Trade Ally approved contractor for water heaters. Garages and basements with some space around the tank are the best locations. If you are replacing a heating system and a water heater within a few years of each other, planning both together can save an electrical visit.
We repair and service most brands of ducted and ductless heat pumps, including systems installed by others. Typical problems are units that won’t start (capacitors, contactors), ice that won’t clear (defrost controls, low refrigerant), cool air on heat (reversing valve or thermostat setup), and ductless heads with error codes. A yearly service visit, clean filters and a clear two-foot space around the outdoor unit keep efficiency up. For other heating problems see heating in Olympia, and for cooling see air conditioning in Olympia.
We support the manufacturer’s warranty on covered equipment parts, and we stand behind our heat pump installations with a 1-year labor warranty from installation.
Join our Home Comfort Club, a monthly membership starting at $15 a month, and a new system we install gets extended labor coverage for as long as your membership stays active, up to 5 years from installation. Ask your technician or comfort advisor for the current plan details.
Seattle-area data puts most air-source heat pump installs between $3,160 and $13,850, averaging about $10,218 (Angi, July 2026), and single-zone ductless between $2,222 and $5,555. PSE rebates can reduce that. Our estimate is free.
Yes. Olympia’s December average is 38.4°F, right where heat pumps are most efficient, and cold-climate models keep heating well below freezing. A gas furnace or electric backup covers the rare hard freeze.
Not currently. Energize Thurston discounts and grants go through the program’s participating installers, and we are not on that list as of September 2026. We can file PSE rebates, which are available on any qualifying install by a PSE Trade Ally.
$1,500, plus up to $2,400 through Efficiency Boost, for replacing electric resistance heat, or the same amounts for adding a heat pump to a PSE gas furnace (as of September 2026).
Yes. Olympia requires a mechanical permit and issues its own electrical permit and inspection. We handle both.
Yes, including ductless systems from most major brands.
We support the manufacturer’s warranty on covered equipment parts, and our labor warranty covers installations for 1 year from installation. Home Comfort Club members (monthly membership starting at $15 a month) with a new system installed by Home Comfort Alliance get extended labor coverage for as long as their membership stays active, up to 5 years from installation.
