Smell gas or hear a carbon monoxide alarm? Leave the house first and do not touch light switches or the thermostat. From outside, call 911 or Puget Sound Energy, which supplies gas and electricity in Kent, at 1-888-225-5773 (PSE gas leak steps). Call us once the utility says it is safe.

A few quick checks solve some no-heat calls before anyone drives out:
Still no heat? Call (425) 645-0404 and tell us what the furnace is doing, any error light it shows and how old it is.
Any of these is worth a diagnostic. A burning or electrical smell is a reason to turn the furnace off and call right away.

Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as no heat in cold weather or a burning or electrical smell.
Business-hours visits run Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with same-day service when possible. Waiting for us on a cold night? Our no-heat emergency guide covers how to stay warm and safe.
Puget Sound Energy supplies both natural gas and electricity in Kent, so PSE is the number to call for a gas leak and the utility behind any rebate. PSE lists no rebate for furnace repairs or tune-ups (checked October 2026).
We pull the required permits for every installation, so you do not have to visit the Permit Center yourself.
Most furnace problems are worth repairing. Replacement starts to make sense when the furnace is near the end of its life, the repair is large, or the same fault keeps coming back.
One rule of thumb is the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace's age by the repair price, and if the result is over $5,000, price a replacement before you decide. It is a guide, not a verdict. A furnace around 30 years old is usually past its expected life, and parts get harder to find, so replacement is often the better spend.
We always price the repair first. If you want to compare, our instant quote gives a replacement range in about 30 seconds, the in-home estimate is free, and our furnace replacement in Kent page covers sizing, permits and financing.

In October a Kent homeowner's gas furnace stopped heating and the thermostat screen had gone blank. The homeowner suspected the thermostat. Our technician traced the problem outdoors instead: a low-voltage wire at the outdoor unit had rubbed against the copper refrigerant piping until its insulation wore through, and the short kept tripping a fuse in the system.
He rerouted the wire so it no longer touches the piping, sealed the worn section and restarted the system, which was running normally before he left. The thermostat did not need replacing after all.

Check the thermostat mode and batteries, the air filter, the furnace power switch and breaker, and that the blower door is closed. If you smell gas, leave the home and call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 from outside.
Common causes are a failed ignitor or flame sensor, a clogged filter tripping the limit switch, or a thermostat set to fan "on". A diagnostic finds the real fault.
Multiply the furnace's age by the repair cost. If the result is over $5,000, replacement is usually worth pricing. It is a rule of thumb, not a verdict: we give you the repair price and, if you ask, a free replacement estimate.
Often yes. A furnace that old is past the usual life and parts get harder to find. We still price the repair first, and our instant quote gives a replacement range in about 30 seconds.
Part-only repairs need no permit. Replacing a furnace or adding gas piping needs a City of Kent mechanical permit, or a King County permit outside city limits, and we pull the required permits for every installation.
No. PSE lists no repair, maintenance or gas furnace rebate (checked October 2026). PSE heat pump rebates may apply if you replace your system.
