Home Comfort Alliance repairs ducted and ductless heat pumps in Monroe, WA, and across the Sky Valley in Snohomish County, with an upfront price before any work begins. Our Everett team covers Monroe, Sultan and Gold Bar. Expect a $119 trip charge plus $72 for the diagnostic; the fix itself is quoted in writing, and nothing happens until you agree.
Call (425) 645-0404. Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7.
Power out? If the lights are out too, report it to Snohomish PUD first. Once power is back, give the heat pump up to 10 minutes to restart; many systems wait on purpose to protect the compressor. Gas smell on a dual fuel system? Leave the house and call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 from outside.
Monroe customers pay the same published visit fees as everywhere else we work. Once the technician finds the fault, you get the repair price on paper.

Monroe-area homes heat with a mix of systems. Many all-electric homes on Snohomish PUD power use a ducted heat pump with electric backup strips. Homes on PSE natural gas often run dual fuel: a heat pump for most of the season and a gas furnace for the coldest days. Older homes and additions often use ductless mini-splits.
We repair all three, of all major brands. Home Comfort Alliance is a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer, a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and a Lennox Premier Dealer. For the furnace side of a dual fuel system, see furnace repair in Monroe.
ENERGY STAR's guidance is to think about replacing a heat pump once it passes 10 years or starts needing repairs often. The $5,000 rule (the system's age times the repair price) is a rule of thumb for when to get a replacement price as well; our written repair price comes first.
Still running R-22? EPA rules let technicians service it with recycled or previously produced refrigerant, and replacement is not required, but supply is tight and the price is high (EPA guidance).
Know the rebate picture before you decide. The PUD's heat pump money goes to all-electric homes moving to a ducted heat pump; it lists nothing for swapping one heat pump for another, for ductless systems or for repairs (Snohomish PUD heating rebates). PSE natural gas customers adding a ducted heat pump to a gas furnace can qualify for PSE's $1,500 hybrid rebate (PSE hybrid rebate). A replacement quote is free, and the instant HVAC quote tool gives a ballpark in about 30 seconds. New installs come with our 3-year Comfort Shield labor warranty, kept active with yearly maintenance, and the first year of maintenance is included. More on heat pumps in Monroe.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as a heat pump that has stopped heating in cold weather. Scheduled visits are weekdays, 8 AM to 5 PM.
Snohomish PUD supplies electricity in Monroe, and PSE supplies natural gas. Swapping a minor part does not need a permit. Installing or replacing a heat pump needs mechanical and electrical permits, and the outdoor unit cannot sit in a required yard setback (City of Monroe permit requirements; Permit Division 360-863-4501). Electrical permits for Monroe come from Washington L&I. Outside city limits, Snohomish County issues the permit. We pull the required permits for every installation.

In October a Monroe homeowner with a two-year-old dual fuel system called because the heat pump would not engage and the system would not switch to gas when it got cold. When our technician arrived, it was running on emergency heat. Neither the heat pump nor the furnace showed a fault code, and the thermostat was reading the outdoor temperature correctly.
The problem was in the settings. The compressor lockout was set too low and the backup heat range too high, so he reset them to a 35°F compressor lockout and 40°F backup heat. He also found one spot inside the outdoor unit where wiring could rub, and insulated and tied it off. Because the fault was intermittent, he noted the equipment interface module and thermostat as the next parts to check if it returns.

We repair heat pumps throughout Monroe, ZIP code 98272, and nearby Sultan and Gold Bar. For all our services here, see Monroe HVAC, plumbing and electrical, and for the national guide, see heat pump repair.
You pay a $119 dispatch fee for the trip and $72 for a standard diagnostic ($130 if a deeper one is needed), plus a $330 after-hours fee only for qualifying emergencies after hours. The repair price comes in writing before we start. For context, Angi lists Seattle-area heat pump repairs at $220 to $2,220 (May 2026); that is not our price.
Long run times are normal in a cold snap. Nonstop running in mild weather, or with the house still cool, usually points to a dirty filter, low refrigerant, a defrost problem or a thermostat setting. Call if it continues for a day.
Turn it off and call. Grinding or squealing usually means a fan motor bearing or a loose part, and running it can damage the motor or the coil.
Light frost that clears during defrost is normal. Ice that stays points to a defrost board or sensor, poor airflow from a dirty filter or coil, or low refrigerant.
A defrost cycle blows cooler air for a few minutes. If it lasts, check the thermostat mode first; otherwise common causes are a reversing valve, low refrigerant, a failed capacitor or dual fuel settings that keep the wrong system running.
ENERGY STAR suggests considering replacement when a heat pump is more than 10 years old or needs frequent repairs. The $5,000 rule (age times repair price) is a rule of thumb for when to compare. We give you the repair price first, and replacement estimates are free.
None for repairs. Snohomish PUD offers $1,800 or $2,500 when an electrically heated home converts to a ducted heat pump through a registered contractor such as Home Comfort Alliance; the PUD lists no rebate for replacing an existing heat pump. PSE gas customers adding a ducted heat pump to a gas furnace can get $1,500.
Replacing a minor part needs no permit. Installing or replacing a heat pump needs mechanical and electrical permits, with electrical permits from Washington L&I. Homes outside city limits go through Snohomish County. We pull the required permits for every installation.
