Many properties in Mount Vernon sit in the 100-year floodplain of the Skagit River. If water reached your furnace, leave it off. Gas controls, wiring and motors that sat in water can be unsafe even after they dry. Book an inspection before running it, and if you smell gas, call Cascade from outside first.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as no heat in cold weather or a burning or electrical smell.
Business-hours visits run Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with same-day service when possible.
We pull the required permits for every installation.
Age, repair cost and safety decide it. A newer furnace with one failed part is almost always worth fixing. An older furnace that needs a major part, has no service history, or keeps failing in new ways is worth pricing against a replacement. The $5,000 rule helps: age times repair cost over $5,000 suggests getting a replacement quote.
If you replace, Cascade pays $1,600 for a qualifying 95% AFUE furnace or $2,400 for 98% AFUE, for installs on or after 15 March 2026 when gas is your main heat; apply within 90 days, and homes with a multi-zone ductless heat pump do not qualify (Cascade rebates). We are on Cascade's contractor list and handle the rebate paperwork. Most furnace installations take between 4 and 10 hours.

In September our technician went back to a Mount Vernon home to replace a furnace's high temperature limit switch. With the new switch in, the furnace ran longer, but testing showed a second problem: a relay on the control board was chattering, so the blower never ramped up to its full speed.
He recommended replacing the control board and the low-voltage transformer, then checking the blower motor once a working board could drive it properly. The furnace was past its factory warranty and had no visible service records, so he also walked the homeowner through pricing a replacement before spending on more parts.

Common causes are a failed ignitor or flame sensor, a clogged filter tripping the limit switch, or a thermostat set to fan "on". A diagnostic finds the real fault.
Short cycling often comes from a dirty filter, a dirty flame sensor, an overheating limit switch or a blocked vent. A technician checks each one during the diagnostic.
