Which system for which home
- Gas furnace with good ducts: central AC on the furnace, or better, a heat pump for dual fuel, which cools in summer and takes over heating in mild weather. If PSE is your utility, the hybrid rebate of $1,500, plus up to $2,400 through Efficiency Boost, applies (PSE hybrid heat pump rebate).
- Electric furnace: a ducted heat pump replaces both the furnace’s daily work and the need for AC; PSE pays $1,500, plus up to $2,400 through Efficiency Boost, for replacing electric heat (PSE electric resistance to heat pump rebate).
- Baseboard heat or no ducts: ductless heads in the rooms that matter most.
- Condo or apartment: compact ductless units, subject to building rules.

Why a heat pump often makes more sense than AC here
In a climate where heating runs most of the year and cooling only a few weeks, a cooling-only air conditioner sits idle most of the time. A heat pump uses the same outdoor unit to heat efficiently from fall through spring, so the investment works year-round. It can also qualify for PSE rebates that a straight AC cannot. The case for plain central AC is strongest when you have a newer gas furnace you want to keep as your only heat source and simply need summer cooling; even then, a heat pump in dual-fuel mode is worth pricing alongside it.
How we design and install
Every quote starts with a room-by-room load calculation and a look at the ducts, electrical panel and possible outdoor unit locations. On installation day, the crew protects the house, sets the outdoor unit level on a pad or bracket, connects and pressure-tests the refrigerant lines, and evacuates them with a vacuum pump before opening the refrigerant. The electrician wires the disconnect and controls, and the condensate is routed to a drain. Before leaving, the installer verifies charge and airflow, programs the thermostat or remotes with you, and leaves the equipment and permit paperwork. Registering the equipment with the manufacturer afterward keeps the full parts warranty available.
Quiet, efficient operation
Variable-speed compressors spend most of their time running slowly, which is quieter, holds temperature steadier and removes more moisture than single-stage units cycling on and off. That matters in Renton neighborhoods where homes sit close together. We place outdoor units away from bedroom windows on both sides of the property line where possible, use isolation pads, and keep them clear of dryer vents and gutters. Spring tune-up
Book it in April or May. Before the first hot week, the technician will clean the outdoor coil and clear debris, test the capacitor, contactor and fan motor, check refrigerant pressures and the temperature drop across the coil, flush the condensate line, and on heat pumps, check the reversing valve and defrost controls.
Permits
