Our Redmond branch sends heating technicians to Renton to repair, maintain and replace gas furnaces, electric furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and dual-fuel systems. Call (425) 645-0404 or use the form and a comfort advisor will set up the visit.
Renton’s winters are cloudy, wet and cool, so heating systems run for a large part of the year and wear accordingly. Puget Sound Energy provides electricity and natural gas in King County, and Renton homes use both: gas furnaces, electric furnaces and baseboards, and a growing number of heat pumps.
Seattle-area data puts most furnace repairs between $139 and $544, averaging about $341, with major repairs reaching about $2,000 (Angi, Seattle furnace repair costs, updated August 2026). These are published estimates, not our prices. After diagnosis, you get a written price for each option and nothing proceeds without your approval.

Most heating failures trace back to a short list of parts:
| System | Common repairs |
|---|---|
| Gas furnace | Hot surface ignitors, flame sensors, inducer motors, pressure switches, control boards, condensate drains |
| Electric furnace | Heating elements, sequencers, relays, blower motors |
| Heat pump | Capacitors, contactors, refrigerant leaks, defrost boards and sensors, reversing valves |
| Ductless mini-split | Filters and coils, drain lines, sensors, communication faults |
| Any system | Thermostats, wiring, blower capacitors, airflow restrictions |
Quick checks first: thermostat on heat and set above room temperature, a clean filter, the furnace switch on, and no tripped breakers. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911.
When repair no longer makes sense, we measure the home and lay out replacement options in writing. Seattle-area data puts the average installed furnace at about $4,683, with most jobs between $2,762 and $6,683; gas furnaces run $3,800 to $10,000 and electric furnaces $2,000 to $7,000 (Angi, Seattle new furnace costs, updated July 2026). Typical choices:
More detail on our furnace replacement page.
Replacement usually deserves a quote when three or more of these are true: the system is 15 or more years old; it has needed repairs in each of the last two winters; the repair on the table is a major part such as a heat exchanger, inducer or compressor; bills keep rising; or some rooms never get comfortable. If only one applies, a repair is often the smarter spend, and we will say so.
In Renton’s older neighborhoods, the ducts are often original. Joints come apart in crawlspaces, returns are undersized, and insulation has slumped or been damaged. A new furnace on tired ducts will not deliver the comfort or efficiency it is rated for. We measure static pressure, check for leaks and disconnections, and price sealing, insulation and return upgrades as separate items so you can decide what to include.
Renton’s mild, wet winters suit heat pumps. A properly sized variable-speed heat pump handles most of the heating season on its own, with backup heat for the coldest days, and it cools in summer. For homes on electric baseboards, a ductless system can take over most of the heating from room heaters, and for a home with a gas furnace in good shape, adding a heat pump for dual fuel lets the furnace rest through most of the mild months. If PSE is your utility, the rebates above apply.
On the slopes of the Highlands, Talbot Hill and Benson Hill, many homes are split-level or tri-level, and heat tends to pile up on the top floor while the lowest level stays cool. The cause is usually air distribution rather than the furnace: long duct runs to the far rooms, a single central return, or a thermostat on the warmest floor. We measure room temperatures and airflow before recommending anything, then work through the options in order of cost: damper balancing, sealing leaky runs, adding a return, zoning with a second thermostat, or a ductless head for the level that never keeps up.
Some “broken furnace” calls turn out to be thermostat issues: a dead battery, a loose wire, the wrong system type selected after a replacement, or a smart thermostat installed without the common wire it needs. Heat pumps are especially sensitive to settings. A deep overnight setback can make the backup electric strips run every morning, which quietly raises the PSE bill. We check wiring and configuration, set schedules and recovery options that suit the equipment, and replace thermostats when a better match will save money.
Your advisor notes the symptoms, the system type and any error code when you book. The technician tests the system while it runs: electrical readings, gas pressure and combustion on gas equipment, temperature rise, and refrigerant pressures and defrost on heat pumps. You get a written explanation of what failed and the repair options, with replacement numbers alongside if the equipment is near the end of its life. After the repair, the system runs a full cycle and gas appliances get a carbon monoxide check before we leave.
Furnace, heat pump and other mechanical equipment installs in Renton are permitted by the City of Renton through its online portal, and because Renton inspects its own electrical work, any wiring is permitted by the city too (City of Renton, permit services; L&I, cities that do their own electrical permits). Like-for-like repairs do not need a permit. We handle permits for our installations, schedule the city inspections, and leave the records with your equipment paperwork, which is useful when you sell.
We support the manufacturer’s warranty on covered equipment parts, and we stand behind our heating installations with a 1-year labor warranty from installation.
Join our Home Comfort Club, a monthly membership starting at $15 a month, and a new system we install gets extended labor coverage for as long as your membership stays active, up to 5 years from installation. Ask your technician or comfort advisor for the current plan details.

Not for a gas furnace alone. Adding a heat pump for dual fuel, or replacing an electric furnace with a heat pump, can qualify for PSE rebates of $1,500 plus up to $2,400.

Once a year, ideally in early fall; heat pumps that also cool benefit from a spring visit too.
Usually air distribution: warm air rises, and duct layout and return placement favor one level. Balancing, an added return or zoning often fix it.
Not if the system is set up well. A large overnight setback is the usual cause; a smaller setback or adaptive recovery keeps the strips off.
