What moves a Silverdale quote up or down:

Cold weather and backup heat
Modern variable-speed heat pumps keep heating well below freezing, although their output drops as the outdoor temperature falls. That is why every design includes a plan for the coldest days:
- Electric backup strips in the air handler switch on only when the heat pump cannot keep up, or during defrost.
- Dual fuel lets a gas furnace take over below a set outdoor temperature, chosen with you based on gas and electric rates.
- Cold-climate models hold more of their capacity in freezing weather and reduce how often backup heat runs.
In winter you will sometimes see steam rising from the outdoor unit. That is the defrost cycle melting frost off the coil, and it is normal. Ice that builds up and stays, or a unit that defrosts constantly, is a reason to call.
Sizing and design
We size heat pumps from a room-by-room heat loss calculation, not from the size of the old furnace. An oversized heat pump short cycles and dehumidifies poorly in summer; an undersized one leans on backup heat all winter. The design also covers:
- Where the outdoor unit sits: on a pad or wall bracket, raised above standing water and snow, with clear airflow and away from bedroom windows.
- Duct static pressure and leakage on ducted systems, since heat pumps move more air than most furnaces.
- Thermostat settings, including how far temperature setbacks go, so backup heat does not come on every morning.
- Panel capacity and the new circuit.
Heat pump repair and maintenance

Permits and install day
Silverdale is unincorporated, so the mechanical permit comes from Kitsap County Department of Community Development (Kitsap County DCD, residential mechanical and plumbing permit form), and the new electrical circuit is permitted through Washington L&I. We file both and meet the inspectors.
