Smell propane or a strange gas odor? Get everyone out, leave doors open, and do not use switches or phones inside. From outside, call your propane supplier or 911. Call us once the home is cleared.
Bainbridge Island has no natural gas utility: Puget Sound Energy lists Kitsap County as electric-only service, and Cascade Natural Gas does not list the island among its communities. Island furnaces run on electricity, propane or heating oil. That changes which parts fail and what a repair involves:
| Furnace type | Common failures | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Electric furnace | Heating elements, sequencers or relays, burnt wiring, tripped breakers | Amp draw on each element, wire terminals, the sequencer and the breaker |
| Propane furnace | Ignitor, flame sensor, gas valve, pressure switch | Ignition sequence, propane pressure, venting and carbon monoxide |
| Oil furnace | Nozzle, filter, ignition, flame sensing (cad cell) | Burner operation and combustion; we service oil systems |
| Heat pump with a furnace or heat strips as backup | Backup heat running all the time | Both halves; see heat pump repair on Bainbridge |
| Item | Home Comfort Alliance price |

| Dispatch (trip) fee | $119 |
| Standard diagnostic | $72 |
| Deeper diagnostic | $130 |

Island windstorms knock the power out often. After an outage, check the breakers and the thermostat clock before booking.
One failed part on a furnace under about 15 years old is usually worth fixing. Compare a replacement when the furnace is older, has needed repeated repairs, or its age multiplied by the repair price comes to more than $5,000.
Because the island has no natural gas, there is no Cascade furnace rebate here, and PSE pays no rebate for a new propane or oil furnace. PSE does pay $1,500, plus up to $2,400 more with Efficiency Boost, when a heat pump replaces electric resistance heat such as an electric furnace (PSE conversion rebate). PSE's enhanced Bainbridge Island rebates ended December 31, 2025; standard PSE programs apply now. Home Comfort Alliance is a PSE Trade Ally.
Replacement estimates are free, and our instant HVAC quote gives a range in about 30 seconds. Most furnace installations take between 4 and 10 hours. New installations come with a 3-year Comfort Shield labor warranty on new installations, kept active with yearly maintenance. First-year maintenance is included. See furnace replacement on Bainbridge Island or oil to heat pump conversion.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee). No heat in cold weather and a burning or electrical smell are qualifying emergencies.
Regular appointments run Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with same-day service when possible. Our trucks are fully stocked, so most repairs can be handled on the spot.
The whole island is one city, so permits come from the City of Bainbridge Island. The City requires a mechanical permit when mechanical equipment is added, altered or replaced, including heat pumps and other heating systems and LPG tanks (City residential permit information). Electrical permits come from Washington L&I. The City's list of work exempt from permits includes replacing a minor part that does not change the equipment's approval or make it unsafe (City exempt work list), so a like-for-like part repair such as a sequencer, igniter, control board or capacitor normally needs no permit. Replacing the furnace does, and we pull the required permits for every installation.

In October a Bainbridge Island homeowner called because their Rheem electric furnace had stopped heating. Our technician found a few burnt wires, a tripped breaker and a failed sequencer, the part that switches the heating elements on in stages.
He replaced the damaged wires and reset the breaker, which brought half of the furnace's heat back right away. A new sequencer is needed to finish the repair, and the homeowner had also asked about a replacement quote to compare.

A repair visit has a $119 dispatch (trip) fee plus a $72 standard diagnostic, or $130 for a deeper one; qualifying after-hours emergencies add a $330 after-hours fee. The repair price comes in writing before work begins. For context, Angi lists Seattle-area furnace repairs at $139 to $544 (August 2026); that is not our price.
No. PSE lists Kitsap County as electric-only service, and Cascade Natural Gas does not list Bainbridge Island among its communities. Island furnaces run on electricity, propane or oil.
Yes. We repair electric, propane and oil furnaces. An oil furnace tune-up is $336, or $288 for Home Comfort Club members.
Island repair visits carry the same posted $119 dispatch fee and diagnostic prices as the rest of our Kitsap service area. Our technicians drive over the Agate Pass Bridge from the Bremerton branch.
Electric furnaces heat in stages. A failed sequencer or relay, a burnt heating element, damaged wiring or a tripped breaker can leave only some stages working. Those are electrical faults to have checked rather than reset repeatedly.
Same-day service when possible. Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee).
The City of Bainbridge Island requires a mechanical permit when heating equipment is added, altered or replaced. A like-for-like part repair, such as a new sequencer, igniter or control board, is on the City's list of work exempt from permits; replacing the furnace is not. Electrical permits come from Washington L&I.
Not for propane or oil furnaces: there is no natural gas utility on the island, and PSE has no furnace rebate. PSE pays $1,500, plus up to $2,400 with Efficiency Boost, when a heat pump replaces electric heat such as an electric furnace.
PSE's enhanced Bainbridge Island efficiency rebates ended December 31, 2025. Projects installed from January 1, 2026 use PSE's standard rebate programs.
Repair is usually right for one failed part on a furnace under about 15 years old. Compare a free replacement estimate when the furnace is older, keeps needing repairs, or its age times the repair price is over $5,000.
