If the house is still cold, write down the blink pattern from the little light on the control board; it tells our technician where to start. There is a fuller checklist in our furnace won't turn on article.
Kitsap's damp winters keep furnaces running for long stretches from October to April, so a weak ignitor, a dirty flame sensor or a tired blower capacitor tends to show up in the first cold week.
| What you notice | Usual cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Ignitor glows, no flame | Gas valve, flame sensor or gas pressure | Measure voltage at the valve and gas pressure; clean or replace the failed part |
| Clicks, no glow | Ignitor | Test resistance; replace (ignitor replacement $353 to $821) |
| Starts, then shuts down | Pressure switch, inducer or venting | Check draft, hoses and the vent path; repair the cause |
| Blows cold air | Limit switch tripped by low airflow | Check filter, blower and ducts before any reset |
| Weak airflow or a humming blower | Blower capacitor, motor or a dirty wheel | Measure the capacitor against its rating and the motor's amp draw |
| Water near the furnace | Blocked condensate trap or drain | Clear and reroute the drain line |
| Blank or erratic thermostat | Batteries, wiring or a failed thermostat | Test the low-voltage circuit; thermostat replacement $299 to $1,840 if needed |
Our NATE-certified technicians work on every major furnace brand, and Home Comfort Alliance holds Lennox Premier and Carrier Factory Authorized dealer status.
Get everyone out first. Do not flip switches, start a car in an attached garage or use a phone inside. From outside, call Cascade Natural Gas at 1-888-522-1130 or 911 for a gas odor, and 911 for a carbon monoxide alarm. Once the utility or fire department clears the home, call us and we will find the cause. We check carbon monoxide on every gas furnace call.
A single bad part on a younger furnace is almost always a repair. The picture changes with age and repeat visits: if the furnace is near 15 years old, has needed several fixes, or has a cracked heat exchanger, get a replacement price next to the repair price. A common shortcut is the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace's age by the repair quote, and if the result tops $5,000, compare both options.
If you do replace a gas furnace in Silverdale, Cascade Natural Gas pays $1,600 for a 95% AFUE furnace and $2,400 for 98% AFUE, plus $150 for a qualifying thermostat and $1,000 for duct sealing, on installs from March 15, 2026, in homes heated mainly by gas (Cascade 2026 to 2027 rebate list). Furnaces under 95% AFUE do not qualify. We are a Cascade-listed contractor and file the rebate for you. Repairs earn no rebate.
A replacement estimate costs nothing, and the instant HVAC quote tool shows a price range in about 30 seconds. Most furnace installations take between 4 and 10 hours. What you get with a replacement: a 3-year Comfort Shield labor warranty on new installations, kept active with yearly maintenance. First-year maintenance is included. See furnace replacement in Silverdale.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as no heat in cold weather or a burning or electrical smell.
Regular appointments are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and we fit in same-day calls when the schedule allows. Waiting for morning? Keep interior doors closed to hold heat in the rooms you use, give any portable heater three feet of clear space, and never use a stove, oven or grill to warm the house.
Silverdale is unincorporated Kitsap County, so permits come from the county, not a city. Puget Sound Energy supplies electricity and Cascade Natural Gas supplies natural gas.
Kitsap County's Department of Community Development requires a mechanical permit for furnace work except appliance repair, so a part repair normally needs none, while replacing a furnace does (Kitsap County permit guide). Electrical permits come from Washington L&I. We pull the required permits for every installation.
Moving in or out with a Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor assignment? Book a furnace check early in the move window so any repair is done before the first cold night.

In October a new customer in Silverdale called because a Carrier gas furnace had stopped heating. When the thermostat called for heat, the furnace started up, but the burners never lit.
Our technician found a weak blower capacitor, rated 7.5 microfarads and measuring 6.14, and a dirty blower assembly. On his test cycle the draft fan started, the pressure switch closed, the ignitor glowed and the burners lit. Gas pressure was running at 4 inches of water column, so he set it back to 3.4, and the temperature rise of 26°F sat inside the furnace's 20 to 50°F range. Because the failure was intermittent, he left a written estimate for an ignition and fan control board in case it returns.

A repair visit carries a $119 dispatch (trip) fee, and diagnosis is $72 for a standard diagnostic or $130 for a deeper one. After-hours visits for qualifying emergencies carry a $330 after-hours fee. You get a written, upfront price before any work begins. For context, Angi lists Seattle-area furnace repairs at $139 to $544 (August 2026); that is not our price.

Common causes are a dirty flame sensor or a weak ignitor that stops the burners, a clogged filter that trips the limit switch, a blocked condensate drain on a high-efficiency furnace, or a thermostat fan set to ON instead of AUTO.
Short cycling usually comes from a dirty flame sensor, an overheating furnace behind a clogged filter, a blocked vent or drain, or a thermostat in the wrong spot. A diagnostic finds which one.
Ignitor replacement is $353 to $821 at Home Comfort Alliance, plus the visit fees.
One failed part on a furnace under about 15 years old is usually worth fixing. The $5,000 rule (age times repair cost) is a rule of thumb for when to compare. We give you the repair price first, and replacement estimates are free.
No. Replacing with a 95% AFUE or better gas furnace can earn a Cascade Natural Gas rebate of $1,600, or $2,400 at 98% AFUE, on installs from March 15, 2026; we handle the paperwork.
