We repair central heat pumps with an electric air handler, dual fuel systems with a gas furnace, and ductless mini-splits of all major brands: sensors, drain lines, fan motors, boards and communication faults. Home Comfort Alliance is a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer, a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and a Lennox Premier Dealer. More about ductless systems.
For most homes, yes. The Seattle Energy Code's design temperature for nearby Bremerton is 29°F, the cold point a heating system is sized to handle, and cold-climate heat pumps keep heating well below that. On the coldest mornings, electric backup heat or a gas furnace on a dual fuel system can help, which is normal.
What is not normal: backup heat running all day when it is in the 40s, a house that will not reach the thermostat setting, or an outdoor unit that ices solid. Those are repair calls. Our cold-climate heat pump page explains how these systems handle a freeze.
As a rule, ENERGY STAR recommends weighing a replacement for heat pumps older than 10 years or ones that keep breaking down. A failed compressor on an older system is the usual point to compare prices; most other parts are routine repairs.
Older systems charged with R-22 can still be serviced: the EPA allows recycled or previously made R-22 and does not require you to replace the unit, though the refrigerant is now scarce and expensive (EPA guidance).
Silverdale is in PSE's electric territory, which matters if you replace. PSE pays $1,500 when an out-of-warranty, centrally ducted all-electric heat pump is replaced with a qualifying cold-climate model through a Trade Ally such as Home Comfort Alliance, plus a $2,400 Efficiency Boost for income-qualified homes; ductless and dual fuel replacements are excluded (PSE upgrade rebate). Some qualifying equipment also carries a PSE instant discount at purchase (PSE instant discounts); we check which option pays you the most. There is no rebate for a repair. Estimates for a new system are free; for a quick ballpark, the instant HVAC quote takes about 30 seconds. Every new installation carries our 3-year Comfort Shield labor warranty, kept active with yearly maintenance, with the first year of maintenance included. Details on heat pumps in Silverdale.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as a heat pump that has stopped heating in cold weather. Booked appointments run weekdays from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Silverdale is unincorporated Kitsap County. Puget Sound Energy supplies electricity and Cascade Natural Gas supplies natural gas. Kitsap County requires a mechanical permit for heat pump work except appliance repair, so a part repair normally needs none, while a replacement does (Kitsap County permit guide). Electrical permits come from Washington L&I. We pull the required permits for every installation.

In October our Bremerton team serviced a ducted heat pump with electric backup heat in Silverdale. The technician checked the filter, cleaned the condensate trap, inspected the blower wheel and motor bearings, and tightened the wiring. The backup heat strips were averaging 20 amps, the coil was clean, and the line set showed no oil or damage.
In heat mode the return air was 68°F and the supply air 91°F, a healthy 23°F rise, and every part was running as it should. A yearly check like this is how small problems get caught before a cold snap turns them into a no-heat call.

We repair heat pumps throughout Silverdale, ZIP codes 98383 and 98315, from our Bremerton branch. For the furnace side of a dual fuel system, see furnace repair in Silverdale, and for all our services here, see Silverdale HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
You pay a $119 dispatch fee for the trip and $72 for a standard diagnostic ($130 if a deeper one is needed), plus a $330 after-hours fee only for qualifying emergencies after hours. The repair price comes in writing before we start. For context, Angi lists Seattle-area heat pump repairs at $220 to $2,220 (May 2026); that is not our price.
Yes. Most failures are parts such as capacitors, contactors, defrost controls, fan motors or refrigerant leaks. Our trucks are fully stocked, so most repairs can be handled on the spot.
A defrost cycle blows cooler air for a few minutes. If it lasts, check that the thermostat is on HEAT; otherwise common causes are low refrigerant, a stuck reversing valve, a failed capacitor or backup heat that is not coming on.
That is usually a defrost cycle melting frost off the outdoor coil, and it is normal. Ice that stays after defrost is not, and needs a check.
For most homes, yes. The design temperature for nearby Bremerton is 29°F, and cold-climate heat pumps keep heating below that, with electric or gas backup for the coldest mornings.
ENERGY STAR suggests considering replacement when a heat pump is more than 10 years old or needs frequent repairs. We give you the repair price first, and replacement estimates are free.
