Smell gas or hear a carbon monoxide alarm? Get everyone outside first. From outside, call 911 or Puget Sound Energy, which supplies natural gas across Bothell, at 1-888-225-5773 (PSE gas leak steps). Do not flip switches or touch the thermostat on the way out. Call us once the utility says it is safe.
Book a visit when the furnace stops keeping up or starts acting differently. These are the calls we see most in Bothell homes each fall:
Still no heat? Call us with the code and what you noticed. It shortens the diagnosis.
Most Bothell homes heat with a PSE natural gas furnace, an electric furnace, or a gas furnace paired with a heat pump (dual fuel). We repair all three, on every major brand.
| Part or problem | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Hot surface ignitor | Clicks or glows but no flame; a common winter failure on gas furnaces. |
| Flame sensor | Burners light, then drop out after a few seconds because the sensor cannot confirm the flame. |
| Rollout or high-limit switch | A safety tripped. We find out why (blocked burner, airflow, venting) before resetting it. |
| Inducer motor and pressure switch | The furnace hums but will not light; often a blocked port or a failing motor. |
| Blower motor or module | No airflow, or airflow that never shuts off. |
| Control board | Error codes, no response to the thermostat, parts not getting the voltage they need. |
| Thermostat and dual fuel controls | The wrong stage runs, or the heat pump and furnace do not hand off correctly. |
Every gas visit includes a carbon monoxide and venting check before we leave.
Our phones are answered and bookings are accepted 24/7. Heating and cooling technicians work during business hours and are available after hours for qualifying emergencies ($330 after-hours fee), such as no heat in cold weather or a burning or electrical smell from the system.
During business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM) visits are billed at regular rates, with same-day service when possible. While you wait, keep interior doors closed to hold heat, use space heaters only on a clear floor away from curtains, and never heat the house with a gas oven or grill. Our emergency furnace repair guide has more on staying safe.

A furnace under about 15 years old with one failed part is usually worth repairing. A common rule of thumb: multiply the furnace's age by the repair price, and when the result tops $5,000, ask for a replacement price too.
Replacement makes more sense with a cracked heat exchanger, repeat breakdowns, or a 20-year-old furnace facing a large repair. Bothell homes on PSE gas can add a ducted heat pump to a gas furnace and qualify for PSE's $1,500 hybrid rebate, with up to $2,400 more through its income-based Efficiency Boost (pse.com, October 2026). Repairs do not qualify for rebates, and the federal 25C tax credit ended on 31 December 2025.

We repair furnaces in the King County and Snohomish County parts of Bothell, and in nearby unincorporated homes with a Bothell address. Puget Sound Energy supplies natural gas across the city. Electricity is split roughly along the county line: PSE serves the King County side and Snohomish County PUD serves the Snohomish County side (City of Bothell Utilities Element, December 2024).
A part-only repair needs no permit. Replacing a furnace does: inside city limits the City of Bothell issues the mechanical permit, and outside city limits in north Bothell addresses, Snohomish County does. New wiring is permitted through Washington L&I. We pull the required permits for every installation.

In October a Bothell homeowner with a dual fuel system (a gas furnace backing up a heat pump) called because the heat would not come on. Our technician found an error code on the furnace: spider webs inside one burner were pushing the flame out of place and tripping the flame rollout safety switch. He cleaned the burners, ran the gas heat until it cycled properly, then tested the heat pump in first and second stage. No parts were needed, so the visit cost only the trip and diagnosis.

Yes. We repair furnaces in both parts of the city and in nearby unincorporated homes with a Bothell address, including North Creek.
Same-day service when possible. Our trucks are fully stocked, so most repairs can be handled on the spot.
Check the thermostat mode and batteries, the air filter, the furnace power switch and breaker, and that the blower door is closed. If you smell gas, leave the home and call PSE at 1-888-225-5773.
Common causes are a failed ignitor or flame sensor, a clogged filter tripping the high-limit switch, or a thermostat fan set to ON. A diagnostic finds the real fault.
Multiply the furnace's age by the repair price. If the result is over $5,000, get a replacement price as well before deciding. It is a rule of thumb, not a requirement.
Usually yes. A furnace that old is well past a typical 15 to 20 year life, and a newer high-efficiency furnace or dual fuel system uses less energy. Our instant quote gives a price range in about 30 seconds, and the in-home estimate is free.
A part-only repair needs no permit. Replacing the furnace needs a mechanical permit from the City of Bothell, or from Snohomish County outside city limits, and we pull the required permits for every installation.
No. PSE lists no repair or gas furnace rebate (checked October 2026). Heat pump rebates from PSE may apply if you replace.
