Usually, yes. A heat pump heats and cools with one system, and what you heat with today decides both the best setup and the Tacoma Power rebate.

|---|---|---|
| Electric baseboards or wall heaters | Ductless mini-split, or ducted if you have ducts | $1,000 (ductless up to 4 indoor units; $650 for 5 or more) |
| Electric forced-air furnace | Ducted heat pump on the existing ducts | $2,000 for a variable-speed heat pump; $1,000 for other air-source models |
| Gas or oil furnace | Ducted heat pump, or hybrid (dual fuel) with your furnace | $1,000 for a variable-speed heat pump |
| Older heat pump | Variable-speed replacement | $1,000 for a variable-speed heat pump |
| Ductless mini-split already | Repair or like-for-like replacement | No Tacoma Power heat pump rebate |
Not on Tacoma Power? A few Fife addresses get electricity from PSE. Check the name on your electric bill, and we will match you to the right program.
We are a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer, Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, Lennox Premier Dealer and Quilt dealer, and we service all major brands.
We size every heat pump with an ACCA Manual J load calculation, room by room, rather than matching the old equipment. That matters most in older Fife homes with little insulation and in newer homes with large open rooms, where an oversized unit short-cycles and an undersized one leans on backup heat. For homes that want strong heat in a cold snap, we can recommend a cold-climate heat pump or pair the system with your gas furnace.
Your price depends on the system type, the size your home needs, ductwork and electrical work, and where the outdoor unit goes. Get a price range in about 30 seconds with our free instant quote tool, then a technician confirms the exact price on a free in-home estimate. More detail: heat pump cost guide.
Regional benchmark, not our price: Angi lists Seattle-area heat pump installations at about $6,667 to $13,852, averaging $10,218 (updated July 8, 2026, Angi).

The City of Fife issues the mechanical permit for a heat pump through its online permit center. Tacoma Power, not Washington L&I, issues electrical permits and does the electrical inspection in Fife. We pull the required permits for every installation.
A heat pump needs a dedicated circuit, and some older panels lack the space or capacity. We check your panel on the estimate visit, and our licensed electricians handle any upgrade (panel upgrades, WA Electrical Contractor Lic. #HOMECCA782DC).
Signs it is time: frequent repairs, weak heat in cold weather, rising bills, or a system that uses R-22 refrigerant. Tacoma Power pays $1,000 when a variable-speed heat pump replaces an existing heat pump, unless the home already received a Tacoma Power heat pump incentive. Its 0% loan does not cover heat pump replacements. Not sure? Read repair or replace a heat pump, or see heat pump replacement.
