Usually, yes. A heat pump heats and cools with one system, and what you heat with today decides the best setup and the PSE rebate.
| What you heat with today | Usual heat pump option | PSE rebate to check |
|---|---|---|
| Electric baseboards or wall heaters | Ductless mini-split, or ducted if you have ducts | $1,500 electric resistance conversion |
| Electric furnace | Ducted heat pump on the existing ducts | $1,500 electric resistance conversion |
| PSE gas furnace | Hybrid (dual fuel): heat pump plus your furnace | $1,500 hybrid; $4,000 if income-qualified and switching off gas |
| Older heat pump, out of warranty | Cold-climate ducted replacement | $1,500 heat pump upgrade |
| Oil furnace | Ducted heat pump | We check current programs for you |
We are a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer, Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, Lennox Premier Dealer and Quilt dealer, and we service all major brands.
Kent's winter design temperature is 21°F (City of Kent building design criteria). We size every heat pump to it with an ACCA Manual J load calculation, room by room, rather than matching the old equipment. Homes on East Hill and around Lake Meridian sit higher than the Kent Valley floor and see colder nights, so we often recommend cold-climate heat pumps that keep heating well below freezing.
Your price depends on the system type, the size your home needs, ductwork and electrical work, and where the outdoor unit goes. Regional benchmark, not our price: Angi lists Seattle-area heat pump installations at about $6,667 to $13,852, averaging $10,218 (updated July 8, 2026, Angi).
Puget Sound Energy supplies electricity and natural gas in Kent.
| PSE program | Amount | Who qualifies |
|---|---|---|
| Electric resistance to heat pump | $1,500, plus up to $2,400 Efficiency Boost | Homes heated by baseboards, wall heaters or an electric furnace (ducted, or fully ductless) |
| Hybrid heat pump (dual fuel) | $1,500 | PSE gas furnace homes; ducted; balance point 30°F or lower |
| Heat pump to heat pump upgrade | $1,500 | Out-of-warranty, centrally ducted all-electric heat pumps; cold-climate equipment |
| Income-qualified gas to heat pump | $4,000 | Income-qualified PSE gas customers; ducted or ductless; apply within 30 days of install |
| Instant discount | $300, $400 or $600 | Qualifying new heat pumps, by efficiency tier; one unit per retrofit |
Ductless systems qualify for the electric resistance conversion and the income-qualified gas switch, but not for the hybrid or upgrade rebates. Some PSE rebates cannot be combined, so we check which option pays you the most. The federal 25C tax credit ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. Home Comfort Alliance is a PSE Trade Ally, and we handle the rebate paperwork for you (PSE rebates).

The City of Kent issues the residential mechanical permit to replace or alter heating and cooling systems, through its online permitting portal or at the Permit Center, 400 W. Gowe, (253) 856-5300 (City of Kent mechanical permits). Electrical permits come from Washington L&I, because Kent is not on L&I's list of cities that run their own electrical inspections. Kent addresses outside city limits go through King County. We plan the outdoor unit's spot on the estimate visit, and we pull the required permits for every installation.
A heat pump needs a dedicated circuit, and some older panels lack the space or capacity. We check your panel on the estimate visit, and our licensed electricians handle any upgrade (panel upgrades, WA Electrical Contractor Lic. #HOMECCA782DC).
Signs it is time: frequent repairs, weak heat in cold weather, rising bills, or a system that uses R-22 refrigerant. If your heat pump is out of warranty and centrally ducted, PSE's $1,500 upgrade rebate can help. Not sure? Read repair or replace a heat pump, or book a repair visit and get both prices in writing (heat pump replacement).
New installations come with a 3-year Comfort Shield labor warranty on new installations, kept active with yearly maintenance. First-year maintenance is included. Home Comfort Club members with a new system installed by Home Comfort Alliance get extended labor coverage for up to 5 years from installation.
Home Comfort Club plans are $15 a month per trade (HVAC, plumbing or electrical) or $30 a month for all three, with yearly maintenance or inspections and member pricing (membership plans).
We install heat pumps across Kent, including East Hill, Kent Valley, Downtown Kent and Lake Meridian. Nearby, see heat pumps in Auburn.
In September 2026 we replaced an older system in an East Hill home in Kent with a Lennox EL196UH high-efficiency gas furnace and an EL18KSLV variable-speed heat pump, a matching indoor coil, a Honeywell F100 media air cleaner and a Lennox smart thermostat.
The outdoor unit sits on a wall bracket, and the crew ran new thermostat wire so the system communicates from end to end. The heat pump handles the cooling and most of the heating, with the furnace backing it up on the coldest days.

Your price depends on your home's heating and cooling needs, the add-ons you need, how many rooms the system serves and where it's installed. Get a price range in about 30 seconds with our free instant quote tool, then a technician confirms the exact price on a free site visit. For reference, Angi puts the Seattle-area average at $10,218 (July 2026), before rebates.
Kent homes are on PSE, so the main options are $1,500 to replace electric resistance heat, $1,500 to add a heat pump to a PSE gas furnace, $1,500 to upgrade an out-of-warranty ducted heat pump, and $4,000 for income-qualified gas customers switching to a heat pump. A $2,400 income-based boost can add to the first three. Amounts checked October 2026.
Yes. If your equipment qualifies, PSE's instant discount ($300, $400 or $600 by efficiency tier) comes straight off your invoice. We check which option pays you the most.
Yes for the $1,500 electric resistance conversion when the system is fully ductless, and for the $4,000 income-qualified gas switch. Ductless systems don't qualify for the hybrid or heat pump upgrade rebates.
Yes. A hybrid system lets the heat pump do most of the heating and the furnace take over on the coldest days. PSE pays $1,500 for adding a ducted heat pump to a PSE gas furnace.
Yes. The City of Kent issues the mechanical permit and Washington L&I issues the electrical permit. Kent addresses outside city limits go through King County. We pull the required permits for every installation.
A correctly sized cold-climate heat pump heats well through Western Washington winters. We size every system to Kent's 21°F winter design temperature with a room-by-room Manual J load calculation and can pair it with backup heat or your gas furnace.
Sometimes. We check your panel at the estimate, and our licensed electricians handle any upgrade (WA Electrical Contractor Lic. #HOMECCA782DC).
If it's older, uses R-22 or needs frequent repairs, replacing it usually makes more sense, and PSE's upgrade rebate may apply. See heat pump repair in Kent for repair prices; replacement estimates are free.
